What is a hoist?

A piece of equipment that is useful to move heavy goods easily and efficiently. They find use in construction sites, warehouses, factories etc. Hoists save time and energy. There are two types of hoists namely Manual & Electric.

Manual chain hoists can be effectively used for smaller installations and lesser permanent applications. They are slower when compared to electric chain hoists. Nevertheless, they exhibit some advantages over electric chain hoists. As they do not use electricity, they save on energy. They are comparatively easier to operate, and are lower on maintenance as they have a simpler design without motors or electrical systems.

Electric chain hoists can be used to lift and move heavier loads more quickly and efficiently. They require less effort to operate in comparison to manual chain hoists. Loads can be lifted both vertically and horizontally with electric chain hoists.

In electric chain hoists, the suspension can be one of the two types commonly used. The choice depends on the kind of projects where the hoists are used and loads to be moved.

The two kinds of suspension of electric chain hoist

In the hook mount suspension type, a hook is found to be attached to the rolling device. This hook is then used to lift the electric chain hoist. The hooks can either be rigid (used for still mounting) or swivel (used for rotating and lifting loads) depending upon the current requirement.

Lug mount suspension type is used when the electric chain hoists should be rigid.
